Modeling the emissions of rural vehicles based on real-world driving cycles

Characterized by a high frequency of use, harsh working environments, poor maintenance, and low levels emission controls, rural vehicles (RVs) are becoming an important source air pollution. Our study used portable measurement system (PEMS) to test the real-world emissions 35 RVs on provincial, rural, farm roads. The results show that rates carbon monoxide (CO) hydrocarbons (HC) mainly occurred when accelerating at speeds. However, nitrogen oxides (NOx) were emitted during high-speed acceleration. particulate number (PN) was higher accelerating. According overall results, vehicle specific power (VSP) provincial road mostly ranged within (0, 3], accounting for 68.80% total. VSP roads concentrated 2] kW·ton?1, 67.09% 76.64% total, respectively. We defined 14 bins based distribution values calculated average rate each bin. By comparing among bins, we found Bins 1–7 (VSP < 0 kW·ton?1), CO, HC, NOx slowly increased as increased. In 8–13 ? four pollutants all decreased in Bin 6 kW·ton?1). built microscopic model according characteristics different types. compared measured simulated factors our can greatly simulate PN RVs.
